Pakistan Security Brief - September 25, 2009

World Bank announces new Pakistan fund for restoring infrastructure; 10,000-man militia raised in Swat; eight militants killed in ambush on army convoy.

  • On Friday the Pakistani government and the World Bank announced a new fund for the restoration of the country's infrastructure. The fund's resources will be targeted at the North West Frontier Province, FATA and parts of Balochistan.[1]
  • A ten-thousand strong tribal militia has been raised in Kabal area of the Swat Valley district in order to "stop the comeback of the militants". Elsewhere in the region, two members of a peace committee were killed by militants while forty-five militants surrendered to security forces. Eight militants were also killed in an ambush on a Pakistani military convoy near Dargai area of Malakand district.[2]
