Pakistan Security Brief - August 20, 2009

A bomb was detonated close near Rawalpindi on Thursday, wounding four policemen and several others; an ally of Swat Taliban commander Maulana Fazlullah surrendered, along with sixty militants, to Pakistani security forces on Thursday in Mingora; the son of a top Osama bin Laden aide was founded dead during a raid on a house in Peshawar.

  • A remote-controlled bomb hidden close to a checkpoint in Rawalpindi, close to Islamabad, on Thursday wounded seven people, including four policemen. The culprits and motivation behind the attack are so far unknown.[1]
  • Khurshid, an ally of Maulana Fazlullah and important figure in the Swat Taliban organization, surrendered to Pakistani security forces on Thursday in Mingora along with sixty militants under his command. [2]
  • The dead body of Abdullah Noori, the son of one of Osama bin Laden's top aides, and a suspected Al-Qaeda member, was found following a police raid on a house in Peshawar Wednesday. Noori was reportedly under treatment by a private physician for kidney ailments, but so far no official cause of death has been announced.[3]�
