Death toll from Bannu attacks increased to 15; US military to expand training centers in Pakistan; Pakistan and India agree to resume peace process; General Kayani meets with General McChrystal.

The death toll from Thursday’s suicide attack at a police facility in Bannu district increased to 15. One bomber struck the facility from a vehicle, while the other bomber was on foot. Although numerous civilians were among the causalities, police officers were believed to be the target of the attack.[1]

The US military intends to expand the number of training centers located inside Pakistan near the Afghan border. Two centers, used for training Pakistani forces that operate against militants along the border, are already present. The US describes the training offered by the centers as effective in eliminating militant fighters.[2]

India and Pakistan agreed on Friday to resume talks for their peace process on February 25 in New Delhi. India postponed all talks following the attacks in Mumbai in November 2008, but earlier this month the two countries began discussing the possibility of meeting for the peace process.[3]

Commander of ISAF in Afghanistan General Stanley McChrystal met with Pakistani Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani in Rawalpindi recently. The two discussed several issues related to the conflict in Afghanistan.[4]
