Chart: Defense Reserve Forces

Yesterday’s decrees transferred six Republican Guard brigades to Yemen’s Defense Reserve Forces, which will fall under the authority of a new commander, Major General Ali Ali Mohammed al Jaifi, and function under the Yemeni Defense Ministry. These transfers, combined with the removal of Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh from the country, are a strong move to neutralize the powerful Republican Guard and to remove them from the Saleh sphere of influence.
