Abu Mohammad al-Jolani (Ahmed al Shara) is the President of the Syrian Interim Government established by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) following the fall of Assad in 2024.

On January 29, 2025, HTS declared Shara transitional president at a self-proclaimed “victory conference” following the fall of Assad in December 2024. This declaration formalized his leadership and made him responsible for forming an interim legislative council and overseeing Syria’s transition. His administration has united over 60 military factions under a new Syrian armed forces.
