Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has served as Prime Minister of Iraq since October 27, 2022. Born in Baghdad on March 4, 1970, he graduated from the University of Baghdad and was actively involved in the 1991 uprisings against Saddam Hussein’s regime following the Gulf War.

As prime minister, Sudani has prioritized security and counterterrorism efforts, particularly along the Iraq-Syria border. He met with US Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve Commander Major General Kevin Leahy to discuss cooperation between Iraqi security forces and the US-led international coalition in combatting ISIS remnants in Iraq and Syria.
