Security personnel from Ethiopia’s Afar Region killed 11 ethnic Somali pastoralists during a raid on Afdam, a village in Ethiopia’s Somali region, on May 3. The attack is part of ongoing ethnic conflict between Ethiopia’s Afar and Somali populations.

Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire and the leaders of Somalia’s Federal Member States  met for a conference in Puntland’s capital city of Garowe on May 3 to discuss the increasingly strained relationship between the Somali Federal Government and regional governments.
