Diplomacy

  • Jomhouri-ye Eslami editorializes upon Ahmadinejad’s Revolution Day speech:
    • "Declaration of readiness of the people of Iran to negotiate with the U.S. is another weak point of the speech. Declaration of Iran's position in this issue is the prerogative of the Supreme Leader and, aside from the Supreme Leader, no one is allowed to make comments on the issue unless it is executing the policies of the Supreme Leader.
    • The Supreme Leader's speech in Yazd which elaborated upon various reasons not to engage in relations with the U.S. made clear: "Relations with the U.S. has for the time being no benefit to the Iranian nation and most certainly on the day that relations with America are beneficial for the nation, I'll be the first person to recognize it."

Therefore, they use all their capacity to neutralize the anti-imperialist nature of the regime, and they do everything to reduce the religious content and revolutionary spirit of the regime and this reality calls for vigilance of the authorities and the nation."
  • Iraqi Interior Minister orders erasing Persian language street signs and other Persian-language signs in religious places of worship in Najaf and other cities in Iraq.

Military and Security

Politics

  • Jomhouri-ye Eslami editorializes:
    • "There were also some weak points in the President's Revolution Day speech in Tehran. He not only compared the state of affairs today with before the Revolution, but he also made some remarkable comparisons based on the year he became president in 2005…
    • He offered examples concerning expansion of universities, increasing university enrollment, articles published in scientific journals, inventions, statistics from the industrial sector, agriculture, cultural heritage, development works, non-oil sector, and the like. The President specifically claimed such developments had taken place since 2005...
    • It would have been more appropriate of the President to address the nation on Revolution day and not certain groups and factions. The people do not take part in demonstrations for the cause of a certain individual, have not been assembled to hear of achievements of the government, but in order to support the Revolution and the regime which belongs to them all…"
  • Jomhouriyyat editorializes: "We must recognize that President Ahmadinejad was a young man during the Revolution and naturally had no greater role in the Revolution and establishment of the Islamic Republic...Attacking former executives and statesmen has no benefit to the regime."
  • Kayhan's Shariatmadari writes:
    • "If someone, let's say Kayhan, warns against physical terror of a personality, does it mean that Kayhan endorses physical terror? It is clear that the person making the warning - in this case Kayhan - should be thanked.
    • Kayhan's staff writer has warned against the terrorist nature of the United States and has disclosed the nature of claimants of reform who are foreign mercenaries. The warning was that it is not implausible that when the Americans get disappointed with advancing their agenda by Mr. Khatami, they will terrorize him physically, just like they did with Benazir Bhutto  in Pakistan. Now, since when has such a warning become 'unethical', 'threatening', 'insolent' and the like?!
    • Kayhan knows the real reason behind anger of some individual surrounding Mr. Khatami and will make further documented disclosures in the near future. Is it not true that Ramin Jahanbeglou, Haleh Esfandiari, Shaul Bakhash, Kian Tajbakhsh and the like are well known spies of the Mossad and the CIA?
    • Is it not true that they all are claimants of reform and visible and invisible relations?
    • Is it not worrying that those individuals who have encircled Mr. Khatami have all close relationships with the Mossad and the CIA?!"

But this dilutes and derails the meaning of the sacred defense."
